Dear Komen Orange County Affiliate -
I have actively supported Komen by donations, volunteering, and racing for the cure for over 10 years. I did so because breast cancer has affected my friends and loved ones and I strongly believed that Komen was one of the best ways that I could help make a difference in fighting this awful disease. Throughout all of my participation, I never once felt as though you were about anything other than fighting the disease and finding a cure.
However, since you have chosen to no longer fund breast cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood, I can no longer support your organization. It breaks my heart because I have seen first hand all of the good that Komen is capable of, but now that you have made your funding decisions political, I can’t be a part of this with a clear conscience.
It is with great sadness and diminished optimism that I hope that you will reverse this decision. Until then, I will be donating my time and money to Planned Parenthood, The American Cancer Society, and other local organizations, such as Breast Cancer Solutions.
